English Reaction.

Society can limit the ways in which people express their identity and seek to fulfil their potential.

There are many ways in which society as a whole can limit the chance of one person to develop to their full potential.
Society creates these non spoken rules/norms that people automatically abide by, for example:

  • You can't wear your pyjamas down to the shops
  • Never talking with your mouth open
  • Never violate someones personal space
  • Making eye contact when you talk
These are some of the ways that society expect you to act while out in public. But there are also many ways that society expect you to look, this is a big problem.
Girls are expected to be a size 10 and boys are supposed to be body builders but the time they turn 17. It is advertised through billboards and magazines which is causing young people to see those people as their role models.

Homeless people are often always seen as dirty, or drugged or even drunk, when that is the assumption that society places on people who live on the streets. Some choose to, some unfortunately do not. We place these stereotypes on people who we think that are below us, who do not dress like a normal person would. What about the celebrities who earn all their fame and fortune and chose not to do anything about it.

Keanu Reeves lives a normal life, he lives in a one story apartment. J.K Rowling donated her money to charity. Mark Zuckerberg walks around in jeans and thongs. If you didn't know who he was, you wouldn't think that he would ever be famous or a millionaire.

This is what is wrong with society, no one stops and wants to know who you are, what you do for a living. We are a shallow society that only cares for what is on the outside, never in the mind.

Media example: Mean Girls
By associating herself with The Plastics, Kady is expected to look, act and talk like them in order to fit in. By doing so she loses her own identity. She is influenced by her friends choices and becomes someone she isn't. This is a short example of when society denying the chances of someone having their own identity. No one can be different in the world of the Plastics. By the middle/end of the film, Kady has become a Plastic and she loses herself, this creates a problem with the people she first became friends with.

Mean Girls can also portray that school denies the chance of a person to reach their full potential socially but academically excel.

This is my thoughts on the English prompt with an example form Mean Girls.

Australia Day Weekend!

HAPPY FEBRUARY EVERYBODY!

hah, yeah I know I'm 10 days late. So sorry it has been forever since I have last written, lets say about.... A very long time!

As some of you may know, I went on a holiday for the Australia Day weekend, this consistent of me driving 4 hours up to Albury, NSW on the Friday afternoon and then participating in a swimming carnival on the Saturday morning.

This was a lot of fun, besides the fact that I got sun burnt, one of the many times over the 6 week holidays. Damn you sun rays.

Not only did I swim, but I also got to spend time with my best friend, Kadek, (which you can check out her blog here)

Here is a boring rundown of what went on!

Saturday:
Waking up far too early for my brain to handle, I travelled very slowly with my brother up stairs to the restaurant which was attached to the hotel. As this has been a tradition for about 8 years, there was always fruit, EVERY SINGLE YEAR! That was all I ate for breakfast, with some yogurt, (apple and cinnamon, which was yummo.) Oh and not to mention the raisin toast! Hah! I have a very big breakfast, but I had to make up for the fact that I probably was going to miss lunch due to swimming.

Walking back downstairs I got my bathers on and threw some clothes over the top to then go shopping with My brother, Kadek, her mum and her 2 cousins. I don't think my brother was very happy, but he came anyways just to get his hair wax which had run out days before us leaving. (with that, he had been using paw paw ointment in his hair as a supplement... right.)

Getting home we then had a few hours to get ready and go to the swim. Swimming in many races, including: 25m, 50m, Brace Pairs, RSL entitlement.

Kadek and I literally rushed home to make sure we had a decent enough time to get ready for the presentation night. Getting ready took roughly about 45- 1 hour. Just 'cause I'm slow.

My beautiful family, except my brother.

Kadek and I
Oh that cool trophy, Shaylene!

The winning relay team.
Sunday:

Swimming in the Murray cod swimming race/carnival, I unfortunately did not win anything this time, hah! But after that we all went back to our rooms and then was just relaxing thank god. I fell asleep for a couple hours then got woken up to realise we were going down to the Murray River to swim, cool.

Every other year we had gone to the Murray River NOT on Australia Day, but this year it was packed! People everywhere! But hardly any in the water. Word of advice: Don't taste the water, it is horrible!

That late afternoon I went back to the hotel room and then got ready for my traditional movie date with Kadek and Jill, her mum. But this year, her two cousins tagged along as well.

Saving Mr. Banks. If I was to give it a star review... 5 flipping stars! Made me want to watch Mary Poppins though, but it wasn't a bad thing.

Monday:

The very much dreaded drive back home! 4 hours which worked out to be a total of 5 and a bit with all the stops. We survived, even with myself driving!

So sorry this was a boring welcome to my month of February but it will try and get better!

Peace out!

(Any suggestions of blog ideas are very much welcome!)
